Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. What happened to Conway's sliding vac relief on the lip of the wand glide? If there was to be any airflow, I'd want it starting at the carpet

Those holes in the cuff improved my dry times before adding the controlled air leak, not to mention the wand glides over the carpet much easier during the entire cleaning job.

On certain hand/stair tools, I've seen holes drilled into the back of the vacuum chamber, near the outer edges. I believe mainly to reduce overspray but also keeps the air flowing.

I'm working on it. Another of the benefits of my RVJR'S. You don't get that steam spray puffing into the work area everytime you trigger the valve. If I look close to the surface when the solution is flowing, I can see a small amount of it being thrown sideways on some carpets and at transitions/doorways. Never do I have blasts of hot vapor introduced to atmosphere like you see on all/most of the pics/video I see submitted on line.
A silicone brush ring added to the cleaning head like on my tile cleaner would eliminate the side throw almost completely.

As a wear item, the skirt would interface at carpet level, attached to the plastic shroud that rivets to the metal 3 slot cleaning chamber. And I think I will drill one of my spare heads as Bob suggests.

In theory yes but the only thing they agitated were loose yarns in a seam.
I owned 3 Butler wands and all were removed and replaced with smooth lips.

They have a three-piece set of a certain somebody's Teflon glide offerings that they're evaluating for OEM applications at the moment..
